A little help goes a long way.

What can I do for you?

Anxiety

As humans, we are hard-wired for anxiety. Children grow up believing that this emotion is "bad" and to be avoided. With proper exploration, this scary feeling can be demystified and young people can learn to embrace, accept and use anxiety to their advantage.

OCD

OCD often goes undiagnosed in children and teens because it looks so much like anxiety on the surface. In addressing obsessive and compulsive symptoms, it is important to see practitioner who has clinician knowledge and training in this area, as the treatment is counterintuitive and requires expertise and specialization.

OCD-Related Disorders

I treat OCD-related disorders, including Tic Disorders and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) such as Trichotillomania and Excoriation Disorder. I am trained in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) and Comprehensive Behavioral (ComB) Treatment for Skin Picking and Hair Pulling Disorders.

Parent Education

Parents feel frustrated when their child refuses to engage in therapy. They may not realize that parent education can be just as effective, if not more so. I work with parents using principles from Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) to teach ways to effectively respond to their child’s anxiety and/or OCD. This can be done in conjunction with their child’s therapy or separately.

“Julie has listened to our child and provided a safe environment for her to open up and deal with her anxiety. As a parent, I could not be more proud of the work they have and continue to do. I have seen such growth in her communication and her maturity level and I believe these are reflective of Julie’s counseling.”
